Large Language Models (LLMs) have burst onto the scene with ChatGPT and GitHub Copilot tools, bringing profound implications for the actuarial profession.

In this video presentation first published on Actuview, RGA's Jeff Heaton and Kyle Nobbe provide an introduction to LLMs and discuss how companies might train these tools to derive greater insights from their own proprietary codebases and datasets. The presentation focuses primarily on the code generation aspects of both ChatGPT and GitHub Copilot and considers which of them might provide the most significant productivity boost for actuaries using the SQL, VBA, R, or Python programming languages. It also highlights both strengths and weakness of using these tools in an actuarial setting.
