Dean Abbott

Dean Abbott is Senior Vice President, Head of U.S. Group Reinsurance and Latin America for RGA Reinsurance Company. In this role he is responsible for all aspects of the U.S. Group Reinsurance operations and RGA’s Latin America operations. Dean oversees and provides strategic direction for all aspects of the business including underwriting, actuarial, business development, operations, risk management, and claims. 

Before being named to this position in 2017, Dean was Senior Vice President and Chief Actuary, U.S. Group Reinsurance. Dean oversaw pricing, valuation, financial reporting, accounting, and risk management in the U.S. Group Reinsurance division. He was also responsible for pricing, risk management, group valuation, and financial reporting for Latin America and pricing for Global Catastrophe.

Dean joined RGA on January 1, 2010, upon the finalization of RGA’s acquisition of ING Reinsurance. Dean joined ING Reinsurance in 2003 and became Chief Actuary and Chief Risk Officer of ING Reinsurance in 2007. Prior to joining ING, Dean served as Vice President, Chief Actuary, and Controller of Allianz’s U.S. Reinsurance division in Minneapolis from 1993 to 2003.

Additionally, Dean worked for 13 years in various actuarial positions at Minnesota Life in the Individual Life & Annuity and Financial Services divisions. Dean received a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) degree in mathematics and computer science from Concordia College in Moorhead, Minn. He is a Fellow of the Society of Actuaries (FSA) and a Member of the American Academy of Actuaries (MAAA).
