Bruce Stahl is Senior Vice President and Head of U.S. Individual Health for RGA Reinsurance Company. Since joining RGA in 2007, Bruce has helped RGA assume approximately $400 million of new annualized long-term care premium through coinsurance, and he has developed a team of actuaries to support RGA’s U.S. Individual Health business.

Bruce began his career with John Hancock’s Group Operations in 1977, working closely with the sales and underwriting departments, preparing proposals and cash flow comparisons of conventional, MPA, and ASO funding alternatives for large employer groups. Later he joined Provident Mutual as a MET Trust Manager, responsible for the experience analysis, pricing, and financial duties as well as overseeing the third-party administrator’s administration of claims, billing, underwriting, and marketing for a MET. Later, at Colonial Penn, he specialized in experience analysis and pricing of Medicare Supplement and life products. In 1994, Bruce began his own consulting practice, BAS Actuarial Services, which performed pricing work for more than a dozen insurers, and acted as the appointed actuary for six. After Penn Treaty, a former client, faced financial difficulties in 2001, he joined the company as Vice President and Chief Actuary to assist them through recovery and was promoted to Senior Vice President in 2003.

Bruce received his Bachelor’s degree in management from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania. He is an Associate of the Society of Actuaries (SOA) and a Member of the American Academy of Actuaries (MAAA). In addition to his involvement with those organizations, Bruce has authored a number of articles on long-term care for industry publications.
